Jobseeking On The World Wide Web Why Employment Sites Are Not Always What They Seem
If somebody inputs the term “online jobs” into Google, most of the suggestions are likely to be websites specialising in advertising vacancies. Undoubtedly this is a significant and growing type of Internet business, which has to some degree superseded newspaper job adverts and agencies as a way of advertising jobs. Despite this, not all the vacancies shown on such websites may be all that they appear, and some in fact appear to have a rather nebulous existence. For anyone weary of applying for such jobs, there exists a quite distinct definition of online jobs available, jobs that are genuinely “online” as you can work from home doing Internet business using the World Wide Web.
The online jobs boards are principally run by recruitment agencies, that have transferred to Internet business as the latest medium. They may give the impression that there is a higher number of vacancies than there really is. Many jobs are advertised on several different jobs boards. They can be recognised, since the job summaries contain the same information albeit couched in distinct language depending on the individuals who penned the ads. If you see the vacancy on one job site, and apply for it, it is fairly pointless to apply for it again on the other site.
In addition, there are many puzzling jobs that are repeatedly re-advertised. I have sent my CV for purported vacancies advertised on some online jobs websites, and did not even receive the courtesy of a reply. Now, if the employer was snowed under by the number of CVs received, and had no time to reply to every single applicant, no problem. But if that was the case, it is safe to assume that from the many people applying, at least one could be selected who had the right qualifications and experience for the position. Surprisingly this is not so, because the position is spotted being posted again on the jobs sites, often time and time again. So I do ask myself, what could possibly be occurring in such cases?
I don’t know about you, but I find it difficult to believe that at the height of a serious jobs shortage, with dozens of applications for every vacancy, recruiters can’t get a person who is suited for the job?
On the contrary, I suspect that a lot of these positions are bogus. An expert in the field has informed me that some employers as well as agencies use such vacancies to collect CVs. Thus if at some future date they may have a vacancy, they have wide knowledge of the kind of potential applicants that are accessible among jobskeekers, and know the salary level they can set the job at.
Several online jobs sites give you the option to start jobs bulletins by email, whereby you will be emailed with details of positions that are appropriate for what you specified. Quite often the emailed positions are completely irrelevant to what you are looking for, so how they are supposed to match what people asked for, is unclear. From a certain site supposedly specialising in positions local to my area, I am repeatedly sent updates about posts in the Channel Islands! If I could work from home in type of Internet business logging into the office, that would be feasible, but not if I am required to relocate there.
So, what of the other definition of online jobs which I alluded to? The majority of these involve working for yourself, however they do provide a genuine opportunity to make money, and in preference to applying for positions with a rather questionable existence it is worthwhile considering investment in attainable Internet business opportunities supported by established business partners, and work from home to acquire the necessary training and develop a successful venture. However for those who rely on the online jobs boards, I wish them luck in telling apart actually existing jobs from jobs of at best uncertain provenance.
