Work At Home And Bank Holidays, Managing Your Breaks For Best Effect.
Today is a bank holiday and it’s raining. Even if it had not been such a poor day I would have been reluctant to make any travel arrangements. Whilst it’s good to make the most of days off the fact that I work from home makes this virtually meaningless. Because I work from home I am able to plan my breaks much more easily than most people. The consequence is that I do not need to take a bank holiday off if I don’t wish to. Because the majority of my work is internet related, doing Online jobs of one sort or another, I am able to work extremely efficiently if the rest of the country is taking time out.
There are two up sides to all of this. One is that I can get on with some duties in the expectation that I will not be interrupted. The phone is not likely to ring as work associates and clients presume that I am taking the day off. So deep concentration Work from home jobs like writing can proceed uninterrupted and I am able to get as much completed on one bank holiday as two average work days. I could even use this fact to excuse taking not one but two days off in lieu later on!
Secondly I am able to avoid the difficulties of bank holiday roads. It seems that wherever you visit on a bank holiday in this day and age you share the road with the rest of the country. This is particularly galling if the weather is fine, it’s so frustrating to be stuck in traffic when the sun is blazing down. Which brings me on to the last point. Nobody seems able to predict what the weather will be like on a bank holiday. But, because I work from home I am able to in reality select my own personal bank holidays at the last moment and make sure that I have a break when the weather is fine.
