Working At Home And Having Business Meetings Making The Best Use Of Your Available Rooms.
Conducting business meetings if you work from home can be awkward as I found out earlier in the week when I had a meeting with a client. They sent a three man delegation and the meeting went on for about three hours. When you work from home, as I do, space can be rather limited. For instance I have a small home office where I do most of my jobs, it’s just big enough for me and my PC so I am able to undertake my online jobs. But when arranging meetings the room is much too small and is devoid of appropriate seating.
As luck would have it I have a decent sized dining room. It’s a room which is exclusively used for entertaining, when we have people over for instance. So making use of it for very occasional business meetings is fine. I wouldn’t want to work from home all the time from a dining room as I would have to store away all my office paraphernalia on a regular basis, however for a meeting it turned out to be perfect. The one snag was that I had to move my PC from my study to the dining room. Luckily, my internet connection is wireless, so the fact that there is no telephone line in the dining room was no big deal.
In fact the whole arrangement looked quite businesslike, very like a boardroom, used only for special meetings. It did though reveal one shortcoming, my PC screen is only 19 inches. That’s sufficient for most work from home duties carried out from my desktop. But for display in meetings it’s much too small. So in advance of my next meeting I am going to buy a bigger screen. I may get a separate additional screen, which I can keep stored in the dining room ready for use, or I may choose a brand new PC like an Apple Mac with a 27 inch screen built in.
